Bone grafting can repair sites with inadequate bone structure due to previous extractions, gum disease or injuries.
In areas where teeth are missing, the jawbone tends to atrophy, or resorb over a period of time. This often leaves a situation where the bone quality and quantity have been diminished, frequently making the site unsuitable for placement of dental implants. Without bone grafting, some patients are not candidates for dental implants.
Today, we have the ability to regenerate bone where needed. This not only gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width; it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and aesthetic appearance.
